"Road Trip !" The words conjure up the same spirit of spontaneity and wildness that early American explorers must have experienced when travelling to the West.
Bryan Hill and I loaded the car with gear, groceries, and cameras and set off for 12 days across America to climb the great peaks of Montana's Glacier National Park and Wyoming's Grand Teton National Park. Along the way we made stops through the South Dakota Badlands, Yellowstone, and had a number of other unexpected encounters with grizzlies, elk, bison, pronghorn, and mountain goats.
Among many cherished memories was being twice denied the summit of Glacier Naional Park's Heaven's Peak. In these failed attempts were the greatest stories of course—hitchhiking, swimming glacier-fed rivers, etc.
