Smokies workshops

Paul grew up in these mountains, and he still lives here today. At 13, he was riding his bicycle around Cades Cove, roaming through the woods photographing bears, then hiking to the peaks to shoot sunsets. Two decades and two dozen Smokies Workshops later, he's still doing the very same things.

Needless to say, you're in good hands if you're looking for someone with intimate knowledge of the Smokies as well as first-class photography instruction. See what others have said below.

What others are saying…

" A month ago I had a very real 'mountaintop experience' when I participated in Paul's Smokies Fall Workshop weekend. I went to the workshop with reasonably good experience taking nature pictures with my point-and-click digital camera, but very little experience using my new DSLR camera.

I was concerned that other participants would be so much more experienced that I would feel overwhelmed.  But that was a needless worry. Paul's workshop approach was inclusive of all levels of expertise, so much so that we learned both from Paul and from each other.Paul gave us all the individual time and help anyone could want. But we were allowed to 'do our own thing,' too, and were shown how we could 'tweak' that and get even better results.

My expectations about the weekend because I admire Paul's work and style were that I would certainly return from the weekend with a few good shots at least. But I came home with over 200 images better than I have ever taken before.

Finally, I am NOT a morning person. But now dawn has a very real appeal I would have never believed. I definitely want to be part of another workshop!”
